My first requests for a football kit were loosely ignored as they cost too much. So i ended up with single pieces from which to choose. My team Liverpool at the time had a very ordinary shirt design and i decided to look elsewhere. But i didn’t realise that design became the motivation for my request. Mum got me a 1970’s Wales international top in red with two powerful stripes down the front. It was only a replica, and I noticed the quality was quite poor as the badge was poorly rendered. It was nothing like the Admiral version.
I was so disappointed as the Welsh dragon was really cool. Never the less I loved wearing it. Soon after came a pair of dark Blue Bolton Wanderer’s shorts with an embroidered Red rose on the left thigh. Even cooler i thought. I even wore a red rose to a family wedding, probably to avert attention from the holes in the kness of my jeans. I can’t remember but I’m sure the rose came from bushes in our front garden.
And to cap off the shorts fetish, i acquired a pair of green Brazil shorts in a silky material that had a huge waistband like those on Kick boxers shorts. I now realise that the Brazil national team wore blue shorts and what i actually wore was just the colours of Brazil, so i must of looked quite dandy at the time.
